Darya talking policy on the House floor!

On the Issues

Darya has a record of advocating for those with the least access to have a seat at the table. Her belief is that when we support those hardest to reach, we reach everyone; when we lift the entire district, we lift the entire state.

Improving Behavioral Health Outcomes

As your representative, Darya Farivar has been a driving force in improving Washington’s behavioral health system. She passed key legislation (HB 2099) that ensures people leaving state custody receive state IDs, removing a major barrier to re-entry. She also secured over $30 million in funding to tackle the behavioral health crisis, including $7 million for the CoLead Northgate program, which provides transitional housing and wrap-around support for people with behavioral health needs. She was the lead negotiator for the House in addressing the Trueblood lawsuit (a case involving people with behavioral health disabilities who are incarcerated instead of receiving treatment).

Darya believes in proactive care—making sure people get the help they need before a crisis occurs. She secured $30M for behavioral health services statewide and locally for responding to overdose and fentanyl consumption through the WA Poison Control Center, and funding programs like LEAD who engage folks experiencing homelessness and behavioral health disabilities.

Increasing Public Safety

Darya knows that public safety is about more than just policing. That’s why she’s fought for early intervention programs, including $8.75 million for DESC’s behavioral health response teams in King County.

To address the complicated intersection of behavioral health and the criminal justice system Darya introduced HB 1994 creating tools for judges to meaningfully hold individuals accountable while getting them into treatment and support. She is proud to have earned the Governor's support of this legislation for the impact this could have on reducing the Trueblood population. Darya is also leading the charge on HB 1445, which strengthens the Attorney General’s power to investigate patterns of police misconduct. Her approach centers on accountability, community trust, and a public safety system that works for everyone

Healthcare for ALL

Darya has been a relentless advocate for healthcare as a human right. She introduced HB 1313 to expand access to Medicare by raising income limits, ensuring more seniors and people with disabilities can get the care they need. Darya has also been a strong defender of reproductive rights, fighting to protect access to essential healthcare following the overturning of Roe v. Wade. She helped pass the My Health My Data bill and the  Sheild Law which protects people in Washington from out-of-state legal action.

Darya’s vision for healthcare includes universal coverage, prioritizing patients over profits, and supporting Whole Washington’s efforts to achieve comprehensive, accessible care for all.

Protecting Democracy

Darya is deeply committed to making sure everyone’s voice is heard by empowering more people to participate in our democracy. She’s introduced legislation to make sure that young people (HB 2192) and people with disabilities (HB 1475) have access to the tools and information they need to cast an independent vote with dignity. Darya believes that we need to meet our constituents where they are at, which is why she introduced legislation allowing local jurisdictions to determine for themselves if even year elections are appropriate for their communities

(HB 1932). Her efforts will help increase voter turnout in disenfranchised communities across Washington, and make our democracy more inclusive and accessible for all.

Tackling the Housing Crisis

Darya has been a leader in addressing the housing crisis in our district. She’s backed the Missing Middle Housing Bill (HB 1782) to increase affordable housing near transit and prevent displacement. She also secured $7 million for the CoLead Northgate program, which provides transitional housing and wrap-around support for people with significant behavioral health needs.

Darya is a strong proponent of rent stabilization (HB 2114) and believes it is the most important legislation we can pass to address housing instability and affordability.

Expanding Public Transportation and Protecting the Environment

Darya understands that public transportation is key to providing access to everyday opportunities and addressing climate change. She’s fought to expand the regional light rail system and secured funding to enhance services and infrastructure around new stations.

Darya has made transportation a priority. At Northgate, she helped pass funding for the Jose Marti Child Care center which plays a crucial role in supporting local families and commuters. In the University District, she supports efforts to place a lid on I-5, a project aimed at reconnecting neighborhoods and creating new green spaces. Additionally, efforts are underway to work with the rest of the delegation, to ensure that vital bus lines in Lake City—one of the neighborhoods with the highest need—are preserved amidst budget cuts.

Her work ensures our investments benefit all residents while protecting communities from being priced out. Darya is also pushing for policies that expand clean, efficient transportation options to tackle the climate crisis head-on.

Educational Opportunity for All
Darya’s legislative record reflects her commitment to making education accessible to all. She’s worked on bills to ensure students with disabilities and language barriers can succeed and secured funding for early childhood education facilities. Darya knows that the whole community benefits when we invest in students and teachers. She is dedicated to breaking down barriers and advocating for better support and pay for teachers, ensuring every student has the opportunity to thrive and succeed.

Gun Responsibility
As the youngest member of the legislature, Darya understands how important this issue is for students and families. And as the Vice Chair of Civil Rights and Judiciary she has been a strong voice for gun safety supporting dozens of bills that make our communities safer. Her approach to gun responsibility is rooted in her experience surviving a school lockdown during a mass shooting and living in Lake City where gun violence is prevalent.

Whether it's sharing her lived experience to support comprehensive bans on assault rifles (HB 1240) or introducing legislation to prevent bulk firearms purchases (HB 2054) she has prioritized gun responsibility. Darya believes that we need to continue investing in Community Violence Intervention programs, empowering local governments to enact stronger gun safety measures, and fund more behavioral healthcare in schools.

Economic Relief

Darya is fighting for economic fairness, starting with reforming Washington’s regressive tax system and ensuring fair market practices. She led the charge on HB 2072, which strengthens penalties for antitrust violations—a critical step as national scrutiny over corporate mergers, particularly in industries like groceries, continues to grow. She was a supporter of HB 1406 which is designed to improve the equity of Washington state's tax code by creating the Washington state wealth tax. As well as HB 1628 which increases the supply of affordable housing by modifying the state and local real estate excise tax.

Darya’s work holds large corporations accountable, safeguarding the well-being of the 46th District—both residents and local small businesses. She supports progressive revenue measures to fully fund social services and uplift those in need, ensuring economic relief reaches the communities who need it most. Darya is committed to building an economy that works for everyone, not just the wealthy few.
